What funding bodies actually ask for

Industrial financing

An illustration for the article What funding bodies actually ask for

The file before the meeting

A first meeting with a funding body is usually decided before it happens, by the documents that reached them. An incomplete file sends a project to the back of the queue rather than to the front of it.

The financial model

The model is asked for open, not printed: the reviewer wants to change the assumptions and read the result. A model that cannot be opened is a model that cannot be believed.

The technical documents

  • Production line specifications and comparable offers
  • The land contract, or evidence of allocation
  • Environmental and industrial permits, or a schedule for completing them

After submission

The review stage is not waiting. The questions that arrive during it are a chance to firm up assumptions, and how quickly they are answered is itself part of how the project is assessed.
